The 2009 partnership between the Kuwait-America Foundation and Conservation International is committed to fighting tropical deforestation in Brazil and Indonesia and reducing the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, while also alleviating poverty by creating alternatives to logging forests.

The Gala Dinner, “Act for Earth,” will be held at the residence of the Ambassador of Kuwait in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, April 22, 2009.  We anticipate raising over $2 million for Conservation International (CI), in support of its commitment to address the global climate crisis by preventing tropical deforestation, which creates 20 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions—more than all the world’s cars, trucks, and planes combined.  CI's strategy is to address deforestation on several fronts simultaneously—conducting scientific research and applying the results to on-the-ground projects; providing advice to tropical country governments; influencing global policy, and smoothing the way for governments and the private sector to invest in priority countries.
